New Lynx Disk Images

Mensajepor Womble » 22 Nov 2020 14:19

Hello Everyone

This is Peter Todd. I lost my old login details and email :)

Looking at the threads in this forum there are many exciting developments for the Lynx.

I will write more later about some of the projects I am involved in at present.

For the moment! Some new software for you all.

Disk images can be found on my website:

http://www.retrogubbins.co.uk/downloads

PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE TWO PAGES OF DOWNLOADS (select page at top of the screen)

There are games including the Splynx conversions. There is also the source code (I think) to the Lynx ROMs - I am still investigating this - it seems to be a unified source for both 96/128 !!!

Best Regards from cold rainy Mid Wales

Pete -no -rofl -grin -grin -shock -thumbup

Re: New Lynx Disk Images

Not really; but to make a long story short:

- I've built a Lynx DOS proto based on Frank Rasmussen design (I assume it works, he has pictured his own working setup)
- Both PCBs (interface & controller) seems to work, XROM loads the Disk ROM as expected and the Lynx still works :-)
- Seems that I can format a floppy, I can hear the stepper motor moving the heads along all the expected tracks.
- ...but when the floppy is going to be verified, it always fails. IIRC, the floppy was indeed erased so seems that there's some problem when reading.

I've checked both floppy drive types: 5.25" and 3.5" (funny that when a 3." drive is used, it writes 80 tracks instead the usual 40). I've also checked all the ICs and all seems to be good working ones, the FDC also seems good, checked both 1793 and 8877 models. My only guess is there's some kind of FDC calibration problem that I'm not able to correct...or maybe my Lynx has a strange problem and need to test my LynxDOS with another machine :-(

What do my eyes see? How's it going Pete?. When we were doing the core of Lynx I was trying to contact you, without success.
I am very happy to see you again on RW

Oh wow! Christmas has come early! Thank you Pete!

2020 doesn't suck so bad afterall.

Some fellow on FB was asking about the availability of Alien 8 and the other Tim Titchmarsh conversions just a few days ago. Looks like this is a complete set!

Almost, I have chequered flag here on tape and there are a few more disks to come. In particular there are about 10-15 CPM disks.

Each disk I have to examine with a sector editor to remove addresses of people and other personal information.

here is Chequered flag as a PALE Snapshot format file

http://www.retrogubbins.co.uk/downloads ... x-snapshot

I have the original tape digitised somewhere, I will give it a try on mike's loader though I seem to remember it was a weird format.

Wow, hello again, Pete!!
Nice to see you're doing well, thank you very much for the nice gifts! You're the indisputable retro-Santa for 2020!!
;)

Now I think it's time for me to start (at last) building a PSU for my Lynx 48, then check if it works OK (hope so, never fired it up since I acquired it from feebay, long ago), expand it to 96k and then try some of the nice software you've uploaded here! Dunno yet how to transfer data from diskimages to WAV -no floppy controller here-, but I'll sure find out, as soon as I'm ready with the rest of the stuff!!

I wonder how different Frank's Controller design is to the originals shown here:

https://ibb.co/1RgjbNK

https://ibb.co/6RYxKkd

I've built controller sets from these schemas.

Hey Pete, have you tried the Camputers Lynx's FPGA core that we made here at the house ?

Works superb on ZXUno, MiST, MiSTica, SiDi and MiSTer boards. 96K with Scorpion ROMs. Oh Yeah !

It will no longer be necessary to search the bottom of the internet to find at least a functional Lynx without it being an armed robbery. xD -507 -rofl

The largest fpga board I have is a DE1

I've been looking at the Mister, seems to be approx 300 pounds for a full setup. I am tempted :)

I have an fpga Lynx core written by Andrew Lewis, I think it is for the DE1 board but I haven't tried it yet.

I used an fpga as a Lynx -> VGA adaptor inside my 'Leisure 2' machine, which is a Lynx96/Propeller/FPGA/Pi hybrid housed in an old SUN case.

I used a Meanwell RT-50A power supply that I mounted inside an old Amiga PSU housing. Fits perfectly, is multi-voltage, and even has a handy on/off switch.
